From Restlessness to Gratitude
Life is constantly changing, moving. We go through so many transitions in life and with every change comes restlessness!
Why does change bring in restlessness?
Because it's unfamiliar. Different from what we expected or what we were habituated to. And the body and mind struggles to cope with the unfamiliar. In unfamiliar situations, our mind frequently ends up looking for threats and problems and that increases the restlessness too.
In such a situation, I always find a practice of gratitude very comforting. Gratitude is a quick and reliable way to move from restlessness to gratitude!
I have noticed that with gratitude, it's easier to come to terms with the current change; it's easier to calm down our nervous system and the mind; and it's easier to be more positive about the situation around us.
Having an attitude of gratitude can be a powerful tool to help us reconnect with what truly matters and unlock a deep sense of happiness and well-being.
The practice of gratitude can be done in many ways. In my client sessions, I frequently recommend practicing gratitude journaling. You can do that too. Simply complete the sentence: 'I am grateful for .......' in three different ways each time giving enough detail to whatever you are grateful for.
